For many race teams, there's often more happening than meets the eye. These cars we see at the racetrack
have a tremendous amount of hours, labor and preparation to get ready for races. Attention to detail doesn't come easy. For
example, before each race, these cars are inspected for leaks, wear, breakage, damage, alignment, etc. A comprehensive list
is then compiled of every item that needs to be addressed. The items are addressed and checked, and then double
checked. Sometimes body damage may simply be cosmetic resulting in a little tweaking or paint touch
up. Or the damage can be more serious and may require the motor to be pulled, frame straightening, new fabrication, new body
panels, new cooling system, not to mention replacing bent steering components, spindles and hub assemblies when necessary.
Once the reconstructing and fabricating is done, then it's time
for regular weekly maintenance such as scaling, tuning, maintaining oil and fluids, brakes, etc. Inspecting and repairing
anything from wheel bearings and steering components, to transmission and rear must be done. One of the most important parts
of any race teams weekly preparation is referred to as 'nut and bolt', which is checking every nut and bolt on the car
for torque and that its fastened correctly.
Some people ask, "why do you guys do this?" The only answer
to that question is simply just having the passion for it. The desire to achieve success in a very specialized sport. If it
was easy, everybody would be doing it.
